The cast of "A Quaker Girl" produced in 1935 at The Royal Court Theatre

Originally the Royal Court was an iron foundry but was bought in 1892 by Mr John Walters to be opened in the following year as a new Variety Theatre. In the new century it became a picture palace and further developed into a bingo hall before returning to it's roots as The Empire Theatre.

At it's Centenary in 1992 a grand concert was held featuring TV stars and celebrities.

In this new millennium, the Empire changed it's name back to the Royal Court. It is a theatre owned and run solely by Bacup Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society on a charitable basis. As with all theatres the up-keep is enormous and...
